Nathaniel Gray has been an invaluable resource to me and my family. When my elementary school-aged child told me that she was transgender, I had so many questions and felt I needed assistance in navigating school issues, social issues and safeguarding my child’s mental and emotional well-being. A friend put me in touch with Nathaniel and The Proud Path and so began my journey towards better education surrounding LGBTQIA+ issues, better support, helpful resources, sage guidance and so much more. Nathaniel has been a guiding light, a compassionate advocate and a knowledgeable source of information. His astounding knowledge and understanding of the issues that our LGBTQIA+ youth are experiencing today, makes Nathaniel Gray an incredible advocate, mentor and counselor. We are very grateful to have Nathaniel by our side on our personal path.
What will help you and your child the most?

Courses Online
Develop competence at home
These courses were designed specifically to help parents of LGBTQ+ kids. Your child is in need of your support beyond just acceptance. The Proud Path Bundle of courses is strategically built to gradually educate you on best ways to support your child. After several years working with young people, many of whom suffered from depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, I can promise you that this is designed to alleviate those symptoms through positive parental support!

Individual Coaching
One-on-one support for you
Need one-on-one time to be mentored through your thoughts and concerns about parenting an LGBTQ+ child? Nathaniel has training in Social Work Counseling, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness Practice. In each session he brings with him extensive research in the LGBTQ community, his own narrative as a guide, and an open heart and mind to meet you where you are and figure out how best to get you to the supportive place you want to be.
My Journey
Using the past to change the future
“Mom, I want to talk to you about something…” I didn’t know how she would respond, and I was really scared. But it wasn’t over yet, I had to talk to my dad about it, a former Marine and construction worker. While he and I laugh about that moment now, it was so terrifying to put into words the things I had been thinking and feeling. He was laying on the couch, and made an off-hand joke about someone being my boyfriend. And in that moment, and very nervous about how it would turn out, I said, “actually… yes. He is my boyfriend.” His reaction was so unexpected and very powerful. And neither of them had any experience parenting an LGBTQ+ child.
I talk about this and more, including drag queens and crazy adventures in my Coming Out video! Check it out!

I found this training EXTREMELY relevant in an immediate sense, since I met one-on-one with a client later that afternoon, who is just beginning the coming out process to certain people (friends, teachers, program participants). As my client directed our conversation, he echoed some of the exact things that Nathaniel touched on in the training, particularly friends/peers asking him when and how “he knew” he was gay, and also trying to navigate negative, hurtful stereotypes he often hears, many of which are sexual in nature. I hope that was able to help him sort through the anger and confusion he was at least feeling in that moment, and found many of the ways Nathaniel directed training an extreme aid in the way I spoke to, and listened to, my client . His behavior in program was SIGNIFICANTLY different following our conversation (engaging in discussion, answering questions, not on his phone), and I hope that he begins to find open, supportive communities in program and here in NYC as he grows to see how unique and wonderful he is.
Thank you Nathaniel!
You’ve always supported your child’s happiness.

Nathaniel strikes the perfect balance between empathy and expertise, with his guidance demonstrating both genuine kindness and a fundamental knowledge about issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Having seen Nathaniel work with students, many of whom are questioning their gender identities, going through the coming out process, or exploring their sexualities, I’ve seen firsthand his ability to make a difference and have an inspiring effect on those around him.
